Opening Words:
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. -- Zen proverb
One day when I was sitting quiet it come to me: that feeling of being part of everything, not separate at all. I knew that if I cut a tree, my arm would bleed. And I laughed and I cried and I run all around the house. I knew just what it was. In fact, when it happen, you can't miss it. -- Alice Walker
Check-in/Sharing
Topic/Activity:
One morning we received a donation of several hundred dollars from a troupe of actors who offered us the proceeds from their performance of the evening before. They requested that we use the money for an urban garden, preferably one involving homeless people. Before we had the opportunity to deposit their donation in the bank, a gardener called saying that he was creating a garden at a local halfway house and wanted to know if [we] could help... Assuming he knew of the actors' recent donation, I asked who he knew in the troupe. He... had never heard of the play!"
-- Carolyn North, Synchronicity: The anatomy of coincidence
"Jungian psychiatrist Harry Wilmer defines synchronicity as 'the simultaneous occurrence of two meaningfully but not causally connected events in which an inner psychic subjective state or event parallels an outer event in the objective world. Not only is the cause unknown, but the cause is not even thinkable.' Synchronicities transcend time and space ... Coincidences, on the other hand, lack the dimension of inner meaning that defines synchronicity." Joan Borysenko, Pocketful of Miracles
Tell a story of such a moment. What is its meaning and what is its portent? What might have made you open to this moment? What, in the way you live, encourages or inhibits your openness to these sacred moments.

Closing Words:
The subtle signals are there to be heard. The universe is singing all the time. If we learn how to listen, we can probably hear something new, like a harmony that resonates within our own Beings. If we then feel for the upbeat and breathe with the music, we have only to lift our arms like the dancing Shiva, stamp out the rhythm with our feet, and Dance! -- Carolyn North
